Hover (2001)

This installation consists of 9 red pillows, and 14 bird-shaped cages. Of the pillows, 4 contain small 4” video monitors. When the image is on (for 6 minutes at a time), the other 5 pillows are still. When the video monitors switch off, the other 5 pillows vibrate gently for 60 seconds. Once done, the video monitors switch back on again, alternating 6 minutes of video to one minute of vibrations. On the monitor is a 2-hour loop consisting of close up of various birds in flight, taking off or landing, or ruffling and preening feathers. The black bird-shaped cages are scattered around the floor in various stages of openness.
