Mercy (2013)

Mercy consists of shoes handmade from ceramic, with the word mercy placed on the bottom in relief. The shoes are styled after Dutch peat shoes, crafted with a wider base to prevent the wearer from sinking into the peat. The word mercy left with each step, repeated with each step, to keep from sinking. Mercy is a plea, an act of penitence, a meditation. It is a durational performative piece.
