Sculpture
In sculpture, one of my favorite courses to teach, we learn principles of working in three dimensions, as well as the basic use of materials, tools, and techniques. We talk about the meaning of materials, how one can get ideas from mastering a material, and how an object that exists in the same space as our bodies can impact how we relate to it. We talk about siting an object in both conventional and unconventional spaces, and how that relates to ideas of democracy in art, and how there is knowledge that comes from working with one’s hands.
